Alexandria, a legend in itself - established by Aristotle's student Alexander the Great in 332 BC. A Greek-Egyptian period ending with Cleopatra the 7th' and Antonio's defeat for Octavius (Emperor Augustus). Just some 80 years after Cleopatra, St. Mark the Evangelist settled here and gave the foundation for the Egyptian Coptic Church. In more modern times Lawrence Durell's "Alexandria Quartet" became "cult literature" and introduced the Greek Alexandrian poet C. P. Cavafy. Today Cleopatra's city has been found under water in the harbor and a new library in Alexandria is established in co-operation with UNESCO. Alexandria is not the Egypt you expect to find, it's neither the Mediterranean city you expect to find - it's Alexandria, a city of its own myths and legends.
